11th Annual Biodiversity Photographer of the Year Competition 2018

An exhibition of winning photographs will be held at the Rediscovery Centre in Ballymun, in July 2018, with the winning photographers presented their prizes by thge Competition Judge and former Photo Editor at The Irish Times, Frank Miller.

Second Place - BEAUTY IN FLIGHT by Christopher Howes. "This photo was taken just outside Tinahely, Co Wicklow. I was told by my friend that there were sightings of a pair of kingfishers seen in the area so all it took was to put in the time and sit and wait. I nearly gave up after 2 and a half hours and I just caught a quick glance of one just flying by so I just fired off a few shots hoping to get at least one shot which I was happy with."

The Swallow by Suzanne Behan: "The Swallow is one of Irelands beautiful migrating birds, choosing to spend the winter in Africa and summer in Ireland, This photo was a special one to capture as swallows are hard to find resting as they eat on the wing catching insects and even drink by swooping low to drink while flying. Swallow always return to the same nest each year and it's important we protect their nesting places."
