Gardaí were last night treating as suspicious the death of a middle -aged married man whose body was found with a number of head injuries in a caravan outside Skibbereen in west Cork.

The body of the man was discovered sometime after 8pm last night when ambulance control answered a call to attend an emergency at the caravan, which is located on the Marsh Road in Skibbereen.

The emergency services immediately alerted gardaí. A local doctor was called and pronounced the man dead. Gardaí last night cordoned off the scene for forensic examination by technical experts, while they also have requested the services of the State pathologist's office to carry out a postmortem on the body of the dead man.

It is expected that the body of will be examined by a pathologist at the scene before being removed later today to Cork University Hospital, where a full post-mortem will be carried out.

Gardaí last night confirmed that they are hoping to speak to a number of people today to try to trace the last known movements of the dead man, who had been seen earlier in the day socialising in Drimoleague. The man was married with children.
