Gardaí seal off two apartments after fatal stabbing

A CAR has been seized and two apartments have been sealed off by gardaí investigating the death of a Polish man in Dublin at the weekend.

Bartlomiej Urbaniak (29) died from stab wounds he sustained in an incident in Fairview in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Mr Urbaniak had been working in Ireland for a number of years. He had been living in Naas, Co Kildare, but was visiting friends in Dublin at the weekend.

Gardaí believe he was attacked and stabbed having left a gathering at an apartment on Richmond Road. He had earlier attended a birthday party at the Wright Venue nightclub in Swords, north Co Dublin, with a group of Polish friends.

Detectives yesterday examined a section of Richmond Road, where they sealed off the apartments for forensic examination and seized a vehicle.

Supt Mark Curran, from Swords Garda station, said a number of people who were present on the night had been interviewed.

However, he appealed to all those who were socialising with Mr Urbaniak to speak to gardaí. He also appealed to a taxi driver who may have transported a group of Polish people to Richmond Road in the early hours of Sunday morning to come forward.

Mr Urbaniak arrived at the Rotunda Hospital, at about 4am, with stab wounds. He was transferred to the Mater hospital but despite emergency treatment, he died there at 4pm on Sunday.

A postmortem was carried out yesterday but members of his family had not arrived from Poland to identify his body as of last night.
