Clare 1-11 Galway 2-18:Beaten Leinster semi-finalists Galway got back on track this evening with a convincing 10-point win over Clare at Cusack Park in Ennis, while Limerick saw off the challenge of Wexford earlier in the day to set up a meeting with Laois.
Clare brought little to the table in truth and were outplayed all over the field from the start and went in at the break six points down.
They were unlucky to end the game with 14 men on the pitch after captain Brian O'Connell was sent off in the 57th minute after a clumsy high tackle on Cyril Donnellan.
The damage had been done by then, thanks to solid performance from Donnellan, John Lee and the Canning brothers, Ollie and Joe, the latter having scored seven points.
Corner forward Niall Healy was also impressive and claimed a personal haul of 1-03 with a last minute goal, immediately after Diarmuid McMahon hit the net late on for Clare.
Manager John McIntyre expressed "great relief" afterwards but insisted there is "scope for improvement" ahead of next week's quarter-final meeting with Cork.
McIntyre will be hoping Ollie Canning and Adrian Cullinane recover in time for that one after both were forced to leave the pitch injured.
Wexford 0-14 Limerick 1-13:An injury-time point from debutant Paudi McNamara was enough for Limerick to progress to phase three of the SHC qualifiers at the expense of Wexford.
McNamara pointed four times in total as Limerick recovered from a two-point deficit at the break.
Rory Jacob and Willie Doran had guided Wexford into the lead in the first half with six points between them, but Andrew O’Shaughnessy kept found the net to keep Limerick in touch.
