Police were last night hunting a four-year-old boy who drove off in a toy truck from a store in Derry yesterday. The boy disappeared from the shop behind the wheel of the £250 Step 2 Mighty Mac. It was the sole model in Millar's Toymaster in the Springtown Industrial Estate. Detectives say a van or trailer would have been needed to transport it out of the car-park.

The boy vanished in the 5 m.p.h battery-operated toy within four minutes of arriving at the store, and police admitted the trail had run cold.

Close-circuit TV surveillance cameras recorded the child scooting out through the front door, with an adult couple hurrying behind on foot.

The theft was only noticed when staff spotted the purple-and-yellow truck was missing.
