Four men remanded over €10 million drugs haul

Four men arrested in connection with Tuesday's seizure of 1.5 tonnes of cannabis resin valued at €10 million in Carbury, Co Kildare have been remanded in custody.

The four - three Irish men and a Spanish truck driver - appeared at  Naas District Court this afternoon in connection with the haul, which was one of the biggest intercepted in the State in recent years.

The drugs were found in a Spanish-registered vehicle at a commercial property in Carbury on Tuesday afternoon during a joint operation between the Garda National Drugs Unit, National Bureau of Criminal Investigation and the Customs Enforcement Agency.

All four defendants are charged with the illegal possession of cannabis and having cannabis for sale or supply at Knockirr, contrary to Sections 3 and 15 of the Misuse of Drugs Act.

Judge William Earley remanded the men - Philip Breen (30) from Sheepmore Avenue, Blanchardstown,  Shane O'Rourke (27) of New Inn, Enfield, Co Meath, Edward Mulligan (42) from Knockur, Carbury, Co Kildare and  54-year-old Jose Feminia, with an address in Valencia, Spain -  in custody to appear at Clover Hill District Court on Wednesday, August 31st.

A fifth man in his mid-30s remains in custody at Newbridge Garda Station following his arrest last night.
