WHETHER Fionnuala Bruton did say a woman's place was in the home or not when she delivered her famous speech during the Clintons' visit is still a matter of debate. But on Wednesday night she seemed pretty certain that a woman's place was on the catwalk as she attended a fashion show in Dublin Castle to raise money for the ISPCC. A fashionable crowd included designers John Rocha and Michael Mortell as well as former model Cindy Cafolla and the ubiquitous Clodagh Keane. The clothes for the show were provided by Diffusion, Kate Gaffney's Clontarf emporium, and over £4,000 was raised for the ISPCC.

Incidentally, Kate's publican husband Paul Gaffney had the RTE Black Box cameras round this week to Gaffney's pub in Fairview so it has been a high profile media week for the popular pair.

And just to prove that Fine Gaelers don't have the monopoly on fashion, Kathleen Reynolds was at the unveiling of Thomas Wolfangel's spring/summer collection at the Berkeley Court Hotel on Thursday night. Lady Arnott gave the event an aristocratic flavour which would - The Lady Says No! - might have been more appropriate given the President's announcement that day, drove down from Derry for the show, while Gay Byrne and Kathleen Watkins had a comparatively shorter journey to make to join their pals from Donegal.
