The ESB was yesterday fined £2,300 for safety breaches after one of its workers was electrocuted when he accidentally came in contact with a 10,000-volt cable. Mr Thomas Tighe died while working on an overhead line at Kiltipper Road, Tallaght, on November 29th last. Dublin District Court heard he was working in a hoist bucket on what was a non-live line when a pole he was using accidentally came in contact with another line, carrying 10,000 volts, which had been installed a few days earlier.

The new line should have been isolated but, because a schematic recording all lines had not been updated, the crew working on Kiltipper Road was unaware of it. The ESB had since taken steps to ensure that a similar incident would not occur again.
