Ethnic Relations in Europe Seminar: Dr Manlio Cinalli of the Institut d'Études Politiques de Paris will deliver his lecture, Ethnic Relations in Europe, as a guest of the Department of Languages and Cultural Studies in conjunction with the Centre for Teaching and Learning and the Centre for European Studies at the University of Limerick. John Hunt Memorial Bursary 2006

The John Hunt Memorial bursary is an annual bursary awarded to encourage a deeper understanding and appreciation of decorative arts and to promote knowledge about the area, through publication or presentation. In this context, decorative arts means artworks made for practical purposes (ceramics, enamels, furniture, glass, textiles, jewellery, metalwork, tools etc).

The purpose of the award is to enable the recipient to develop a particular aspect of his or her work. The recipient will be expected to demonstrate that a practical result, such as a publication or presentation, will be achieved through the award. Each bursary will be for a sum of €1,500 and will be paid in three instalments.

To apply you must provide a detailed statement as to why you need this funding and how you propose to use it (max. 1,000 words). A clear programme of work over a defined period must be provided with the application. You must also include a CV and the names and addresses of two referees. The closing date for applications is Tuesday, April 4th.

Steps to engineering K'NEX Challenge 2006

Over 15,000 primary school students in 500 schools will be taking part in the 2006 Steps to engineering K'NEX Challenge between March and June. Co-ordinated by the Science, Technology and Engineering Programme for Schools (Steps), with support from Discover Science and Engineering, the aim of the competition is to introduce fourth- and fifth-class students to the world of design, engineering and technology. Pupils will design and make a model using K'Nex construction kits. Qualified engineers will judge the winning models. The national final will take place on Tuesday, June 20th in the Helix, Dublin City University.

New North/South Research Journal

The Head of the Northern Ireland Civil Service, Nigel Hamilton, will launch a new research journal, The Journal of Cross Border Studies in Ireland, in the Stormont Hotel in Belfast on Tuesday March 21st. The journal will feature articles by leading Irish and American authorities on cross-border co-operation in sustainable development, spatial planning, education, health and information provision.
