Dun Laoghaire baths plan vote postponed

A vote on controversial plans to redevelop derelict baths in Dún Laoghaire, South Dublin was postponed last night at a local authority meeting.

Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown county councillors were to consider whether or not to accept a €140 million plan designed by council architects to develop the baths on Queen's Road. But they agreed to postpone the decision to allow the county manager, Derek Brady, more time to respond to questions they had asked at a private meeting last week.

Mr Brady agreed to provide answers to more than 70 councillors' questions by next week and said he would provide a report on the public feedback received following a recent display of the plan. He also agreed to examine alternatives for the site and present a number of different scenarios to councillors based on their suggestions.

The €140 million proposal includes an eight-storey building with 180 apartments over retail units and restaurants, an indoor swimming and leisure complex, and a maritime park on five acres of infilled sea shore. The design also includes a 10-storey circular glass tower with a viewing platform, a plaza for open air events and a promenade to link the Forty Foot and the East Pier.
