Drug gang's 'accountant' gets six years

The "accountant" for a major drugs operation has been jailed for six years by Dublin Circuit Criminal Court

The "accountant" for a major drugs operation has been jailed for six years by Dublin Circuit Criminal Court. The court heard that the gang had a £3.5 million turnover in six months.

Brendan Davis (27), of Swords, Co Dublin, lost £40,000 of a compensation settlement he had invested in the criminal operation due to what he was told was drugs being intercepted. He then became indebted for thousands of pounds to his boss in the operation due to becoming a serious cocaine addict.

Dermot Wearon (38), a taxi-driver from Garristown, a co-accused who worked as a courier transporting the cash for the operation, was jailed for two years for his role.

Davis and Wearon pleaded guilty to conspiracy to obtain cannabis resin for the purpose of sale and supply on dates between January 1st, 1998 and March 31st, 2000.
