Spanish student (15) injured in hit and run in Cobh

Teenager who was on exchange programme incurred head, facial and dental injuries

Student was struck by a car in a hit and run incident at Laundry Hill in Cobh, Co Cork shortly before 9pm on Tuesday night.

Gardaí­ are seeking the assistance of the public after a 15-year-old Spanish student was struck by a car in a hit and run incident at Laundry Hill in Cobh, Co Cork.

The incident occurred shortly before 9pm on Tuesday night.

The driver failed to remain at the scene.

The teenager incurred head, facial and dental injuries and was due to meet a surgeon on Wednesday morning to assess her treatment needs. She is being treated for her injuries at Cork University Hospital.

Her relatives have been notified and they are in close contact with her host family, who are understood to be deeply shocked by the incident.

The teenager is in Ireland on an exchange programme.

The car which was involved in the hit and run has been described as dark coloured. It is believed to have travelled in the direction of Newtown in Cobh at around 8.40pm on Tuesday.
