Gardaí hope postmortem can explain death of man in Cork

Gardaí have requested the services of the State Pathologist’s Office to carry out a postmortem on the body of a man found outside a house in Co Cork this morning.

The body of the man, who has been identified as Polish national in his 40s, was found on the ground at the Manor Mills estate where he lived in Rathcormac between Cork and Fermoy at about 11am.

One theory gardaí are examining is that the man may have fallen out of an upstairs window of the building.

They have requested the services of the State Pathologist’s Office and hope a postmortem due to take place on Tuesday will establish the exact cause of death.

Acting Deputy State Pathologist Dr Linda Mulligan has travelled from Dublin and is to carry out the postmortem on the dead man at Cork University Hospital on Tuesday morning.

Gardaí say the results of the postmortem, including toxicology tests, will determine the direction of their investigation.

The deceased was found by the two men with whom he was sharing the rented house, and gardaí have taken witness statements from them to try to establish when the man was last seen alive.
