Local authorities in Dublin have said that all roadworks necessary for the introduction of the Stillorgan "Quality Bus Corridor" will be completed in time for Monday morning's opening.

Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council had some road markings left to paint yesterday. A spokesman said recent delays on the N11 southbound between Loughlinstown and Cabinteely were caused by minor roadworks unrelated to the QBC.

The spokesman added that the N11 between Kill Avenue and Newtownpark Avenue would continue to be upgraded, "meaning that the QBC will start from the junction of Newtownpark Avenue until the roadworks are finished". The county council is providing a three-lane road in each direction with a cycle-lane and a footpath as part of its road-widening scheme.

At Belfield the road markings are being changed to reflect a longer right-hand turning lane at the Montrose junction, but the main carriageway is to retain three lanes up to Donnybrook village.

A spokeswoman for Dublin Corporation said new roundabouts on Strand Road in Sandymount were part of a traffic-calming scheme, which was not connected with the QBC. The spokeswoman said that the experience of the Malahide QBC, where the bus corridor was opened before all roadworks had been completed, had weighed heavily with the corporation. All works on the Stillorgan route would be complete by Monday.
