Home is where the smart is

A reader called Vivien Bond sent us a timely and smart mail about how to save money insuring a smart phone.

“I am on my third iPhone and never take out insurance from where I buy it,” this secured Bond writes. “I had no trouble adding it to my house insurance with a value given, at no extra cost. Not only do you pay a high price with these other insurances, many do not see the small print. For instance, I think if it is stolen, it has to be on your person. If it’s in a bag, hard luck! People often forget that any items (including iPads ) can be listed on your insurance quite easily.

“Obviously there are conditions and first payments, but the other way is very costly! A little research and a phone call or two are worthwhile.”
