GREECE: Campaigning in the Greek general election ended yesterday with the conservatives tipped to end a decade in opposition and emerge the winners.
Mr Costas Caramanlis's conservative New Democracy party has been leading the governing socialists in opinion polls by about three points, ahead of tomorrow's election. His party exploited discontent over living costs, public services and unemployment.
The Socialists have pinned hopes on late support from young urban voters and based their campaign mostly on the accomplishments of their administration, which include adopting the euro, improving relations with Turkey, and breaking up the November 17th terrorist group.
