A 14-year old Clonmel boy who allegedly suffered an assault last weekend has died in hospital.

A 14-year old Clonmel boy who allegedly suffered an assault last weekend has died in hospital.

Brian Rossiter, from the Wilderness Estate in Clonmel was allegedly assaulted in Clonmel on Sunday. He was on a life-support machine since Wednesday and was pronounced dead at 5.30pm this evening at Cork University hospital.

Brian is survived by his parents, two brothers and four sisters.

The Deputy State Pathologist, Dr Marie Cassidy is to examine the body tomorrow.

A garda spokesman said an investigation was ongoing to ascertain exactly how the boy came upon his injuries last Sunday.

Officers would review the status of the investigation following the result of the postmortem, he added.
