Cash stolen in Dublin hospital armed raid

Two armed men escaped with a "large undisclosed" amount of cash in a raid at a Dublin hospital this morning, the Garda said.

Two armed men escaped with a "large undisclosed" amount of cash in a raid at a Dublin hospital this morning, the Garda said.

However, it has been reported that up to €180,000 was taken during the raid at St James's Hospital in the city.

One of the men was armed with a handgun and the other with a hatchet. A Garda spokesman said no shots were fired but a security guard was hurt when he was struck in the face. He is recovering in St James's Hospital.

The incident happened at 8.20 a.m. when the van was making a delivery to an ATM. Gardaí are searching for the two raiders.
