Minsk - Police in Belarus yesterday arrested about 100 people taking part in a protest against the regime of President Alexander Lukashenko. The arrests were made when police moved in to break up a group of about 500 protesters gathered in the centre of the capital Minsk.
Heavy security measures were taken ahead of the demonstration - underground stations were closed and traffic was banned in the city centre.
