A United Nations plane crashed while attempting to land at the airport serving Congo's capital Kinshasa today, killing 10 people and injuring 16, according to a UN source.

"The plane landed heavily, broke into two and caught fire," the source said, asking not to be named.

The plane was coming from Goma in the east, the source said.
