A PIECE by Louis le Brocquy is one of the highlights at an Adams of Blackrock auction on Tuesday, February 1st. A watercolour, River Liffey: The Source, has an estimate of €10,000-€12,000. It is one of 420 lots in an auction that also includes a selection of antique furniture, jewellery, clocks and mirrors.

Among the highlights are a pair of Georgian mahogany and brass-bound plate buckets (above), estimated at €3,000- €4,000, and an “early Waterford” 12-light chandelier (€5,000-€6,000). Viewing begins tomorrow, Sunday afternoon from 2 to 5pm at the auction rooms, 38 Main Street, Blackrock, Co Dublin.

AN UNUSUAL and inexpensive item amid the jewellery and silverware at O’Reilly’s auction in Francis Street next Wednesday, February 2nd at 1pm may prompt a sigh of nostalgia. A 1920s Garda Síochána whistle (below), manufactured by J Hudson and Company of Barr Street Birmingham, is estimated at just €60-€80. Readers fretting about Valentine’s Day might want to check out the Tiffany diamond dress ring, estimated at €10,000- €12,000.
