Life's a picnic!At least it seems to be at Debenhams this summer, where picnic rugs are reduced from €25 to €17.50; a pastel Butterfly bento box is down from €37 to €25.90; and a woven box-shaped picnic basket, also in the Butterfly by Matthew Williamson range, is down from €37 to €25.90.

A wicker picnic basket was €112.50 and is now reduced to €78.75. Also reduced are superchic tropical print dinner plates from the Butterfly range. They were €7 each and are now €4.90 a plate. A selection of acrylic picnic dinnerware includes some very handy wine glasses down from €6 to €4.20 each.

Summer Style

Now is the time to invest in summer accessories for your home – even if you don’t get to use them until next year. For the beach, Meadows and Byrne have children’s picnic chairs, reduced from €11.50 to €7.95. Adult beach chairs are down from €12.50 to €8.75. Deck chairs that were €31.95 are now €19.95. Add light to evenings in the garden with stylish leaf-cut powder-coated lanterns, down from €7.95 to €4.95. A second, more nautical style, the Hampton lantern comes in two sizes and two colours – sage green or white.

The large was €19.95 and is now €11.95. The small was €11.95 and is now €7.95. A boathouse caddy lantern is reduced from €13.95 to €8.95. Ideal for the beach, the Blanco is a small foldable table that will add a bit of luxury to a day at the seaside. It was €21 and is now €14.95. Cushions are also reduced. Weekend and summer motif square cushions were €14.95 and are now €9.95.

Sheet Dreams

Bedeck at Kildare Village (045-520117, KildareVillage.com) has gorgeous bed linen that gets better with age. For period homes, Country Flowers by Sanderson is a subtle floral print in 100 per cent cotton that also comes in throws and a wide selection of matching curtain widths. Items are reduced by half across the range, including single duvets (€36), kingsize duvets €54 and single Oxford-style pillowcases (€9 each).

A second style, Valentini, a polycotton mix, comes in duvet sizes from single to superking. Again, half-price reductions are available on singles €47, kingsize duvets €69, and Oxford-style pillowcases (€16 each). Bedeck’s Mayfair 550g towels, made from 100 per cent combed cotton, are down from €30 to €10.50 in the bath size, and from €45 to €15.75 for the bath sheet.

Barbie on the Beach

BQ (Swords; Belgard Retail Park; Liffey Valley; Mahon Point, Cork) has a selection of beach and camping chairs reduced to clear. The Blooma Curacao beach chair in blue or green is down from €18.60 to €11. The Blooma camping chair was €11, now €7.45. Disposable barbecues – perfect for the beach – are reduced from €7.45 to €3.70. Or cook up a storm in the garden with the Blooma Kinabalu charcoal barbecue down from €12.40 to €6.20.

Fine DIning

Kube Kitchens and Interiors (01-2973064 kubekitchens.ie) at Unit 2, Block D2 in Beacon South Quarter in Sandyford Industrial Estate, Dublin 18, is selling a floor-model Calligaris walnut dining table with six Latina dining chairs in taupe, reduced from €2,519 to €1,500. The table measures 200cm by 100cm.
