The Statics - See Right Through album review: a bit too rough and ready

Artist: The Statics
Genre: Rock
Label: Plastic Day Records

Six years after they formed, The Statics release their debut album – but it’s taken a bumpy ride to get to this point. Now a trio, the Dublin band lost a member in recent years which necessitated a re-jigging of roles, but it’s doubtful if an extra member might have made a difference to these songs.

Most tracks sound roughly recorded and lacking any real distinguishing features, leaning heavily on the same blueprint of bustling, bouncy indie-rock peddled by any number of similar bands. Say's enjoyably grungey thrust and the playful rhythmic patterns of Goodbye help break the monotony, but there's little of note elsewhere.

Losing at least five of its 15 tracks might have made a more concise calling card, but overall there is simply too much noise and not enough magic.
