Does it really get better than this? Music that sounds like it was mixed in a blender, the constituent parts being Beach Boys, Buddy Holly and Elvis Costello (1977-1980 version). Over the past few years, San Francisco’s Girls have gone from being new kids on the block to something of an influence themselves.
Fronted by Christopher Owens (a former member of cult sect The Children of God), Girls were founded on the principles of a skewed view of punk rock and pop music.
Aligned with this joyous, noisy amalgam are Owens’s songs of characters that tell their own singular, reflective tales of desire, rejection, heartbreak and having as good a time as you can without actually doing anything illegal.
