Windows 10 Anniversary update brings highs and lows

Some users are reporting blank, silent screens on reboot after the automatic update

The Windows 10 Anniversary Update is rolling out automatically across Windows PCs right now and users are in for a treat or some handwringing frustration, depending on what mood their machine is in. While the update is plain sailing for many, some are experiencing unresponsive mice and keyboards or blank, silent screens on reboot. Microsoft recommends a clean install.

Update highlights include 1,000 new apps in the Windows Store for Cortana, Microsoft’s AI assistant that works much like Apple’s Siri. Cortana is also now accessible through your lock screen, making it possible to ask questions or play music without unlocking your device. Another welcome update is Windows Ink Workspace, a dedicated canvas that sits on your desktop, giving handy access to all Ink-enabled apps including Sticky Notes.

The Anniversary Update also means Cortana is now available on the Xbox One for extra voice command functionality through your headset or Kinect gear. For example, you will now be able to switch on your Xbox One by asking Kinect to make it so. iti.ms/2aP8DYi
