Shoppers urged to know their rights

A new campaign urges Northern shoppers to get to know their rights on the high street

A new campaign urges Northern shoppers to get to know their rights on the high street. The Office of Fair Trading (OFT) will distribute a new pocket guide to shoppers' rights in Belfast on May 23rd when a seminar on the subject will also be held.

The Hot Shopping Tips booklet will form part of the OFT's regional roadshow to raise awareness among local consumers. The guide includes practical advice for shoppers allowing them to make informed decisions on their buys.

Welcoming the campaign, the Minister of Enterprise, Trade and Investment, Sir Reg Empey, said it was essential that consumers knew their rights. "This comprehensive strategy includes measures aimed at targeting information to consumers through, for example, a consumer helpline and also actions focused on protecting vulnerable consumers such as the young and elderly," he said.
