Lucent Technologies, the world's biggest telecommunications equipment maker, capped the recent bout of bad news from the technology and telecoms industries with an unprecedented fourth profits warning of the year.
The US company also conceded for the first time that it had been chasing over-ambitious growth targets.
Lucent's shares slipped another 8.5 per cent yesterday.
