Lucent Technologies yesterday named Mr Henry Schacht as its new chairman and chief executive, replacing Mr Richard McGinn, and warned that adjusted revenue in first quarter 2001 would decline by 7 per cent.

A statement from the telecommunications equipment maker said the board of directors, following a review of the company's recent performance and near-term prospects, "determined than an immediate change in leadership was necessary".
