Convenience retail group Gala is to create 480 new jobs as part of an expansion which will see it open 30 new stores next year.
The Gala brand was established in 1998, and has seen its retail sales increase from €1 million in its first year of operation to €507 million this year.
Gala said this represents an increase in turnover of 26 per cent on 2005, which in turn saw an increase of 27 per cent on its 2004 turnover.
"We are performing extremely well in a competitive retailing environment, and have increased retail sales from €420 million in 2005 to €507 million this year," said Gala chief executive, Tom Keogh.
The company also said it had created 615 jobs this year through a €48 million investment in the business.
Gala currently has 220 stores across Ireland and employs 3,500 people in retail and wholesale.
It currently sources €192 million from Irish suppliers, a 28 per cent rise on last year.
"Our brand profile is at its highest ever level through our increased focus on marketing," said Mr Keogh.
"This includes our status as official sponsors of the Gala All-Ireland Senior Camogie Championships and our ongoing advertising campaign.
"We are confident that we will deliver on the plans we have outlined for next year."
