A traditional packaging manufacturer which is celebrating 140 years in business this month has been chosen as one of the first companies to be supported under Enterprise Ireland's e-business accelerator fund.

Faulkner Packaging, which was founded by Mr Patrick Faulkner in September 1860, is to receive a grant worth between £100,000 to £250,000 (#127,000 to #317,000) redesign its existing websites to enhance interactivity.

The company has already had considerable success with the launch of a product for the direct marketing industry, www.snazzy bags.com, which has recorded annual sales of more than #1.3 million in just 18 months.

Enterprise Ireland's e-business accelerator fund enables traditional companies develop an online strategy. Some 50 companies out of a total of 96 entrants are to be awarded grants worth more than £4 million from the first tranche of funding. A further £6 million in funding will be available in the second round.
