The Consumer's Association of Ireland kicked off its annual general meeting last night with a plea to the Government for funding.

"We're the only independent consumer association in the EU not to receive any form of state money whatsoever, and I think it is selling Ireland's consumers short," said chief executive Mr Dermott Jewell.
