All things come to those who wait. . . eventually! Businessman John Teeling, whose ventures have ranged from gold mining to whiskey distilling, now has the unusual distinction of having had to wait until he was in his 50s to win his first rugby medal.
Called on to play for the Clontarf third C's in the final 10 minutes of a match in Stradbrook last weekend, the team's player manager was thus part of the winning team and qualified for a Leinster Rugby Cup medal.
Clontarf supporters said Mr Teeling, who has been playing rugby since his school days, starred in the prop forward position.
