Martyn Turner’s political cartoons have appeared in The Irish Times since 1971. Born in 1948 in Wanstead, on London’s eastern edge, he was educated at Bancroft's School in Woodford, nearby, and then at Queen's University Belfast. He began drawing professionally for the Sunday News in the city around 1970. Upon graduation he joined the Belfast independent political and cultural review Fortnight, later becoming its editor. In 1976 he moved to Co Kildare and became the political cartoonist of The Irish Times, where he still draws four cartoons a week and is allowed to occasionally write. He has published 17 books of cartoons and articles.
