2019: A new challenge, a new career and a new opportunity in the cloud

Why not choose Amazon Web Services (AWS) in Ireland?

Amazon Web Services (AWS) is all about builders innovating on behalf of customers, doing things that have never been done before. We focus on our customers in a way that allows our employees to invent on their behalf all the time. Now that we've grown to over 2,500 employees in Ireland, we have a great opportunity for more inventors and builders to contribute to our customers. So why not join our team and help customers in all industries and of all sizes to scale and grow?

One of the only ways to get out of a tight box is to invent your way out – Jeff Bezos

At AWS we don't mind being called “peculiar”. We have our own way of doing things. We are obsessed with customers globally, we see beauty in simplifying the complex, and we're comfortable with being misunderstood. That might sound unorthodox, but our unusual approach and our culture is focused on removing obstacles so builders can build. They are also important reasons why our employees enjoy working at AWS. We start with the customer and work backwards.

AWS Software Development Engineers, Network Development Engineers, Engineering Operations Technicians, Data Center Security Managers, Data Centre Technicians, Support Engineers, Solutions Architects, Systems Engineers, Optical Deployment Engineers, Big Data Specialists, DevOps Engineers, and a range of technical management positions support millions of customers all over the world on their digital transformation journey to the cloud.

Irish start-ups such as CurrencyFair, Logentries, LogoGrab, Swrve, Teamwork, and XtremePush, as well as established businesses and enterprises, such as AON Centre for Innovation and Analytics (ACIA), Fineos, Dun & Bradstreet (D&B), OpenJaw, and Trust5, are all using AWS to build their businesses. Education institutes, such as Institute of Technology Tallaght (ITT), and academics, not-for-profits, and government departments are also leveraging AWS to innovate.

Instead of buying, owning and maintaining their own data centers and servers, organizations in Ireland can acquire technology such as compute power, storage, databases, and other services on an as-needed basis from AWS. With cloud computing, AWS manages and maintains the technology infrastructure in a secure environment and organisations access these resources via the Internet or in some cases, by directly connecting to AWS. Capacity can grow or shrink automatically according to demand, and organisations only pay for what they use.

Another peculiar aspect of AWS is the company’s continual focus on lowering its cost structure, allowing it to pass savings onto customers in the form of lower prices. AWS has now reduced prices 68 times. As well as lowering costs, AWS is also constantly expanding the number of services it offers to customers. AWS now offers over 125 fully featured services for compute, storage, databases, networking, analytics, robotics, machine learning and artificial intelligence (AI), Internet of Things (IoT), mobile, security, hybrid, virtual and augmented reality (VR and AR), media, and application development, deployment, and management.

In addition to focusing on customers, Amazon strives to be a part of the communities in which it operates. Amazon Ireland has brought the AWS Educate program to the country, supporting tertiary institutes such as the Dublin Institute of Technology, Dublin City University, and the University of Limerick. This program provides students and educators with technology and training resources, at no charge, to accelerate cloud-related learning and help education institutes to leverage cloud computing. Amazon Ireland has also brought AWS Activate to Ireland, a program for start-ups that gives them access to guidance and one-to-one time with AWS experts, as well as web-based training, self-paced labs, customer support, third-party offers and up to USD $100,000 in AWS service credits, all at no charge. AWS's Dublin based employees also donate their own time to run CoderDojos, free computer programming clubs that educate young people in Dublin on coding and computer sciences.

In June 2018, AWS partnered with the Institute of Technology Tallaght to introduce a new bursary program that will enable students to learn the necessary skills to train for a career working in our Dublin data centers. The new program trains students in the latest cloud technologies and provides them with the knowledge to be able to install, configure, maintain, secure and repair hardware and networking systems in data centers. The first group of students will begin a work placement in AWS data centers in January 2019.

At Amazon, we believe that every day is still day one. A day to take a first step. A day to look forward to new challenges. Today is that day for you. It’s your day to be part of something great. A day to make your ideas come to life, and your day to join a company that redefines itself every day. That’s the energy and passion behind Amazon.

Come and join the team in Amazon Ireland where every day, is day one.
