Leinster SFC Round One/Tyrrellspass 1-10 Abbeylara 1-6: Tyrrellspass of Westmeath overcame a spirited second-half fightback by Abbeylara of Longford in Cusack Park, Mullingar yesterday before advancing to a showdown with Laois' Arles-Killeen.

Tyrrellspass eased into a commanding 1-6 to 0-1 interval lead - the goal caming via David Glennon's penalty kick midway through the half. He had earlier added to Tommy Newman's opening minute point and further points followed from Kevin Connell (3) and Denis Glennon.

Tyrrellspass looked to be coasting, but the visitors served up a mighty fright on the change of ends. Abbeylara had failed to score from play in the opening 30 minutes with their score coming from free-taker, Padraig Berry.

The introduction of full forward Niall Sheridan at the interval boosted Abbeylara. He brought them right back into the contest when fisting a goal seven minutes from the end. However, they were only able to manage another Berry point thereafter.
