Bulgarian weightlifter Ivan Ivanov will be stripped of his Olympic 56kg silver medal after a positive diuretic drug test, IOC vice-president Kevan Gosper said this morning.

This means bronze medallist Wu Weining of China will take the silver and fourth-placed Kyu-Dong Hwang of South Korea the bronze.

Meanwhile, hammer thrower Vadim Devyatovsky from Belarus tested positive for nandrolone in an out-of-competition test in the Olympic village.

Two other athletes, Simon Kemboi of Kenya and Dupe Osilen of Nigeria, will play no part in the Games after testing positive for nandrolone at Grand Prix events in Europe last month. The news comes just a day after the International Amateur Athletic Federation announced they would suspend Dieter Baumann, Germany's 1992 Olympic 5,000 metres champion, for two years following a positive test for nandrolone in October 1999.
