CONNACHT MFC SEMI-FINALS Mayo 1-13 Sligo 0-7:  THIS CONNACHT minor football championship semi-final at McHale Park, Castlebar on Saturday night turned early in the second half when Mayo's Aiden Walsh scored the only goal of the match from the penalty spot.

At that stage Sligo were just four points adrift but Mayo took control to run out comfortable winners in the end.

Mayo had earlier spurned two goal chances, Aiden Walsh saw his effort saved by the goalkeeper while Daniel O'Hara had his goalbound effort cleared off the line by Sligo full back Conor Davey.

Five points from Walsh and one apiece from Alex Corduff, Ray Geraghty and Aiden O'Shea had Mayo leading by 0-7 to 0-4 at half-time, the Sligo scorers coming from David Maye (two) and one apiece from James Clarke and David Reilly.

• Roscommon pipped Galway by 1-12 to 0-14 at Tuam Stadium in Saturday's second semi-final. The game turned on a goal in injury time by Roscommon's Eugene Stritch which levelled the scores and sent the game to extra-time.
