EQUESTRIAN:Dan Walsh notched up a second-place finish on the Toscana Tour in Arezzo on Saturday. Walsh, who won at the Italian fixture in the bronze tour last weekend, produced one of only two clears in the Silver Tour jump-off.
The 24-year-old Co Kildare rider, who is based with Cian O'Connor at Waterside Stud in Meath, was trying out a new partnership with the mare Celeste and opted for caution against the clock to finish more than seven and a half seconds off the winning pace set by Germany's Armin Schafer, but it was good enough to claim the runner-up spot.
Over at the German fixture in Dortmund, Jessica Kürten was eighth in Saturday's Dortmund championship and then added a sixth in the young horse class.
The world number 10 was fast and clear with the stallion Galopin du Biolay in the Dortmund championship, but her time of 34.53 seconds wasn't quick enough to challenge German ace Ludger Beerbaum, who claimed the title in 32.65 with Gladdys S Kürten then brought out Castle Forbes Cadeaux for the young horse speed class to break the finish beam just over two and a half seconds adrift of German winner Franke Sloothaak for sixth.
Slightly further afield, Ireland's first ever dressage team to compete on the Asian circuit finished third in the team competition at the Indian international fixture in New Delhi on Saturday.
Dressage Ireland vice-chairman James Rooney joined forces with Anthony and Maria Byrne to hold onto overnight position and take third of eight teams, finishing behind Estonia and the India Red team.
