Sigerson Cup Athlone IT 1-7 IT Tralee 0-4: Athlone IT put a very poor IT Tralee side to the sword at the Kerins O'Rahilly's pitch in Tralee yesterday afternoon.

It was as poor a Sigerson Cup game as witnessed at a Kerry venue. Tralee had nothing to offer up front or at midfield and went down without showing any desire to win.

IT Tralee took the lead through a Chris O'Driscoll point inside the opening minute, but apart from the heroics of some of their defenders, including Kerry under-21 players Killian Young and Martin O'Mahony, they were outgunned.

Athlone IT dominated at midfield where Kildare under-21 player James Kavanagh gave a man of the match display, with some outstanding fielding, and corner forwards James Coughlan from Offaly and Galway's Derry O'Brien proved a handful.

Athlone were gifted a goal in the 20th minute when Kavanagh intercepted a Doyle clearance and set up James Coughlan for an opportunist goal.
