Premiership round-up:  David Cotterill's first Premiership goal, in the week of his 19th birthday, set Wigan up for a 2-0 victory at Upton Park which leaves West Ham firmly in the mire.

The Welsh striker was making only his second Premiership start since signing from Bristol City for £2million and curled his 50th-minute shot into the top right corner.

Leighton Baines added Wigan's second seven minutes later after his 35-yard drive cannoned in off the hip of West Ham defender Jonathan Spector, and the result sees Alan Pardew's sorry squad plunged back into the relegation zone.

Emre fired Newcastle out of the relegation zone as the Magpies came from behind to snatch a precious 3-2 victory over Reading.

But striker Obafemi Martins paid off a sizeable chunk of his £10million transfer fee by converting a 57th-minute penalty for his first league goal at St James' Park to end the visitors' run of four successive Premiership victories.
