The 22-year-old's performances this season have put him in contention for player of the year accolades but have also alerted Europe's top clubs.

However, the Portugal international has expressed his desire to stay with the Red Devils, although he admitted he had ambitions to play in Spain one day.

"We have talked and I hope to reach agreement as soon as possible," Ronaldo said of his contract negotiations. "Nothing has been decided yet and I would like to stay. I would like to play in Spain one day, but I am happy here at Manchester."

The winger, who has been linked to Spanish giants Real Madrid and Barcelona, added on Portuguese radio station Antena 1: "You can never be certain of anything in life, but I am happy here and I want to stay here. In football there are no guarantees.

"If I don't leave now, if I leave in two, three, four, five years I would be happy, I am at a great club."
