Soccer: Inter Milan midfielder Wesley Sneijder expects to remain at the Serie A club this season following the departure of Samuel Eto'o to Russian side Anzhi Makhachkala. The Dutch international has been strongly linked with a move Manchester United this summer.

With the transfer window closing tomorrow, the 27-year-old does not anticipate any last-minute surprises following the €20 million sale of Cameroon forward Eto’o earlier this month.

Sneijder told Dutch newspaper AD: “It was either me or Eto’o to leave Inter and since he has now gone there is no need for Inter to sell me. It would be very strange if something happened now.

“Things can move fast but there is nothing going on behind the scenes. It has been very quiet despite all the rumours.”

Sneijder joined Inter from Real Madrid in 2009 and helped the Nerazzurri win the Champions League, Serie A and Coppa Italia in his first season in Milan. The former Ajax star was limited by injuries to just four goals in 25 league appearances for the club last term.

Inter finished runners-up in Serie A but won the Coppa Italia. Sneijder is under contract with Inter until June 2015.
