SOCCER:Southampton boss Jan Poortvliet has resigned with immediate effect after less than eight months at the club.

The Dutchman was brought in last May but has seen Saints struggle badly this season.

The south-coast club are currently second from bottom in the Coca-Cola Championship and lost to relegation rivals Doncaster last Saturday.
