Portsmouth manager Harry Redknapp is weighing up a potential move for Celtic's Stilian Petrov.

Portsmouth manager Harry Redknapp is weighing up a potential move for Celtic's Stilian Petrov.

Reports suggest he has flown to Tel Aviv for talks with millionaire backer Alexandre Gaydamak about his budget.

Petrov submitted an official transfer request towards the end of last season, which was rejected by Celtic.

Redknapp said: "I like Petrov, he is obviously a top player and I am aware of the situation. But I'm not going to say anything else at the moment, because he is one of Gordon Strachan's main players."

But the Pompey boss appears to have cooled his interest in John Hartson.

His future is in doubt after it emerged Celtic accepted a £500,000 bid from West Brom for the striker who had intended to see out the remaining year of his contract.

Redknapp added: "We were interested in big John at the start of the year but I couldn't say something will definitely happen this time."  PA
