Tottenham full back Benoit Assou-Ekotto could be investigated by the police following an ugly confrontation with a fan after the defeat to Wolves at White Hart Lane that dented their hopes of Champions League football.
Harry Redknapp’s side had been beaten by Kevin Doyle’s third-minute header, with the post-match incident occurring by the tunnel at Spurs’ ground.
Joe Jordan hauled the Cameroon international away and led him down the tunnel, then the Spurs assistant boss later gave his version of events to club’s security team.
One eyewitness said the Spurs defender raised his hands to the supporter’s neck after receiving verbal abuse.
“We are aware of the incident and we are investigating,” said a Spurs spokesperson. “The police are speaking to everyone involved.”
It was a bitter end to an awful afternoon for Spurs, who lost to Stoke at home earlier in the campaign and drew at Aston Villa and Everton in their last games.
