Premiership round-up: Reading enjoyed a memorable first taste of top flight football on Saturday as they came from 2-0 down at home to beat Middlesbrough 3-2 on the first day of the Premier League season.

Reading trailed to goals by Stewart Downing and Aiyegbeni Yakubu after 21 minutes but two goals in two minutes by Dave Kitson and Steve Sidwell made it level at halftime and substitute Leroy Lita won it for the new boys in the 55th minute.

Gilberto Silva was on target for Arsenal in the 83rd minute but the honour of scoring the first goal at their new 60,000 Emirates Stadium had already gone to Aston Villa's Olof Mellberg as the match finished level at 1-1.

Sheffield United, promoted behind Reading last season, drew 1-1 at home with Liverpool but Watford, the third new side, lost 2-1 at Everton.
