Diego Maradona is recovering in hospital and could be released next week, according to doctors.

The Argentina football legend was admitted to Guemes Hospital last weekend with ill health brought on by smoking, dietary and alcohol-related problems, but doctor Hector Pezzella was optimistic about his patient.

"Maradona is recovering well from alchohol intoxication and he could leave the hospital next week if everything continues as it is," Pezzella told television network TyC Sports.
