Goalkeeper Manuel Neuer has signed a new five-year contract at Bayern Munich, the club have announced.

The 30-year-old put pen to paper on a new deal on Wednesday that ties him to the Bundesliga champions until 2021.

The Germany international, widely regarded as the best keeper in the world, has been at the Allianz Arena since joining from Schalke in 2011.

The new contract ends any hope incoming Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola, currently in charge at Bayern, may have had of luring the World Cup winner to the Etihad Stadium in the summer.

Neuer, whose previous deal was due to expire in the summer of 2019, follows team-mates Jerome Boateng, Thomas Muller, David Alaba and Javi Martinez in committing his future to the club until 2021.

Neuer, whose arrival from the Royal Blues was greeted with hostility by many Bayern fans, has won them round in the following five years, winning three Bundesliga titles, two DFB-Pokals and the Champions League.

Bayern remain on course for the treble this year, holding a seven-point lead at the top of the table, through to the final of the cup, courtesy of Tuesday night’s 2-0 win over Werder Bremen, and in the last four of the Champions League, where they will face Atletico Madrid.
