Manchester United are contemplating a move for France international Franck Ribery.
The Marseille starlet has been tipped to leave the club following the departure of coach Jean Fernandez and according to L'Equipe, United are ready to make a firm offer.
But French champions Lyon are still the favourites to sign the 22-year-old, who has become one of Europe's most highly-rated young players this season.
Ribery was also linked with a move to Tottenham in January but the London club's interest has waned while United boss Alex Ferguson has reportedly been in contact with his agent Bruno Heiderscheid.
The youngster told Reuters that Fernandez's exit from The Stade Velodrome has affected his wish to stay with Marseille.
"Jean Fernandez's departure has hurt me," he said. "He is someone that has counted on me a lot, and for sure his departure can have consequences for me. We will see who l'OM will chose to replace him."
Meanwhile Heiderscheid has admitted Ribery's current club and their chairman are making life difficult.
"For two weeks I have been trying to contact Pape Diouf, either directly or through other people," said Heiderscheid. He doesn't reply. We can't talk together about the Franck's future. It seems like he wants a clash." PA
