Premiership round-up:Nwankwo Kanu grabbed his ninth goal of the season in Portsmouth's 2-0 defeat of Everton to move them third in the Premiership this afternoon, while Steven Gerrard was on target for Liverpool as they went fourth with a 4-0 home victory over Fulham.

Fifth-placed Reading were held 0-0 by bottom club Watford, while Tottenham Hotspur thumped Charlton Athletic 5-1 and improving Newcastle United beat 10-man Blackburn Rovers 3-1. Wigan Athletic drew 1-1 at Middlesbrough.

Earlier in the day, Manchester United surged nine points clear at the top of the Premier League with an edgy 3-1 derby victory over Manchester City on Saturday.

City had not won a league game at Old Trafford since 1974 and their hopes of ending that depressing sequence were dashed as Wayne Rooney and Louis Saha struck before halftime.
